Twisted – Maggie Giles

What starts as a simple jewelry heist quickly spirals into something much darker when Detective Ryan Boone discovers an unknown drug that could be tied to a string of brutal, seemingly unrelated murders.

At the same time, Mel Parker — the ruthless leader of an underground high-end escort service — stumbles across the same pills and realizes the danger they pose to both her business and her life. As Ryan digs deeper and Mel tries to protect her secrets, five women from completely different walks of life find themselves pulled into the investigation.

With every new lead, the web gets tighter, more dangerous, and far more twisted than anyone imagined. Because in this story, everyone’s connected — just not in the way you’d think.

I was so excited to get into this one! I loved how, as a reader, I truly felt like part of the investigation — connecting clues, second-guessing everyone, and realizing there’s always more to the story than meets the eye. Even though it took me a bit to differentiate all the characters at first, I quickly got into the rhythm and began appreciating how distinct their voices became. The multiple POVs kept things dynamic — like a puzzle slowly clicking into place — and just when I thought I had it all figured out… I also really liked the contrast between Ryan’s relentless need for justice and Mel’s morally gray complexity. By the end, everything comes together in such a satisfying way — or does it? Because, yes, the story continues in Wicked, the second book. To be continued 👀

“No, no.” The words came out soft. Breathless. She’d been here before.
The blood pumped in her ears, a deafening sound as she drew a shaky breath and glanced to the bedside table. She expected to see a low burning candle, but instead there was a small electric lamp.
That was different.
She tried to calm her ragged breathing. Was this a dream? She pinched herself but nothing changed.
Sweat prickled on her brow. No, no, not again.”
