Book Summary ✹
When sorceress Illyse is pulled into a royal monster hunt, she finds herself caught between those with magic and those who fear it. Taken to Castle Thorn by the king’s guards, she expects tension, politics, and suspicion — not Garit, a human doctor who looks at her magic with curiosity instead of fear.

Garit plans to finish his service and leave the kingdom behind for good. Haunted by the loss of his former partner, he no longer believes in love — or anything close to it. But Illyse slowly breaks through that distance, awakening something he thought he had buried.

As the hunt begins to unravel the fragile peace between magic and non-magic, Illyse uncovers a secret hidden within the castle — one powerful enough to shake the entire kingdom. Now, she must choose between the life she’s always known
and the one she’s only just beginning to imagine.

Review 💭
I had such a nice, easy time reading this.
It’s a romantasy that doesn’t overwhelm you with heavy world-building, and I really appreciated that. You get just enough to understand the world without feeling lost, which makes the whole reading experience feel light and effortless.

I also loved the variety of magical elements — harpies, fae, a fox familiar
it added something fun without making things complicated.

The romance is soft, a little instant, and leans into that “we shouldn’t
but we do” energy. At its core, it’s really a story about being seen and accepted, even when the world tells you that you don’t belong.

“The best way to understand a monster is by listening to their story.”
